The Gold Coast Tweed Open kicked off on the cold cold weekend of July 4,5 at Fingal on the Northern NSW coast in 2-3 ft clean sunny conditons with competitors from the east coast states of QLD, NSW and VIC. The comp was held out the front of the Fingal Holiday Park which at times when you looked up the coast seemed to be the only location with decent waves that weekend. Surf Kayakers Darron Basson and Terry Petch joined the crew on the Saturday to show off the new Random Surf Kayak's and Darron & Steve Farthing who are attending the World Surf Kayak Championships showed what was possible in their new kayaks. The competitors were spoiled with an absolute feast at little Brett's place at Banora, thanks heaps to Brett and his helpers for the great hospitality.

The Open division was battled out to the end with Dale, Mark, Steve and Darren and Dale taking out the open division, and Darren the Seniors dividion and Mark in the Master's division. All entry fees were reinvested as prize money at the end of the event with the winners going home as true grinners. Thanks to Steve Farthing and Russell Hudson and the rest of the crew for helping with the judging and the running of a great comp. It was great to see some of the old faces competing again to push everyone who is keen to train and compete for the up and coming world titles which will be held in Coffs Harbour later this year.
